Flying Solo is the debut solo show from actress and writer Manjeet Mann. An early version of the show enjoyed a successful short run at the Camden Fringe Festival last summer, and Flying Solo is being developed from this.
“Running keeps me sane, It’s about keeping myself on track, gives me a purpose, gives me a reason to live.”
Ambers not a people person, team sports at school were like gang warfare. But the track…now that was her time. Time she’d use to make sense-of-stuff, family stuff. Days spent keeping her parents apart, stopping one from killing the other, sisters that paired up- alone and unimportant, until she started on Gemma Griffin in the school playground. That made her feel strong, really fucking strong.
Today she’s running the London Marathon. Six months of hard training, logging every run, tracking her progress, monitoring her heart rate, pace and times . She will run a sub 3.30 marathon, all she has to do is avoid hitting the wall.
The past is gone, but as soon as Amber gives it thought, she brings it back into the present moment. Proving that your past will always catch up with you, and there’s no way you can outrun your demons.
Flitting seamlessly between a multitude of characters Manjeet Mann tells a tale spanning almost three decades. Flying Solo promises to be a funny, thought provoking and intimate look at families, sibling rivalry and plenty of tips on how to run your perfect marathon.
Flying Solo is an Arts Council funded project. After a short rural tour in September 2015, the show will tour extensively in 2016.
